K - 2nd Grade Beginning Music

Beginning music class is an introductory course, consisting of students in the Kindergarten through 2nd grade age group.  They will focus on the basics of choral training, basic solo singing, basic music notation and sight-reading, and basic performance skills.  Students will learn pieces from a variety of genres, ranging from classical, seasonal/holiday, jazz, Broadway, pop and patriotic.  This group will participate in four music performances each school year (one per class per quarter) and will be required to participate in rehearsals for those performances, as well as complete in-class assignments and oral participation in music theory and dictation each week.

3rd - 4th Grade Beginning Music

Beginning music class is an introductory course, consisting of students in the 3rd  through 4th grade age group.  They will focus on the basics of choral training, basic solo singing, basic music notation and sight-reading, and basic performance skills.  Students will learn pieces from a variety of genres, ranging from classical, seasonal/holiday, jazz, Broadway, pop and patriotic.  This group will participate in four music performances each school year (one per class per quarter) and will be required to participate in rehearsals for those performances, as well as complete in-class assignments with oral and written participation in music theory and dictation each week. 

5th - 6th Grade Choir Class

Intermediate choir class is a choir group, consisting of students in the 5th and 6th grade age group. They will focus on the basics of choral training, basic solo singing, basic music notation and sight-reading, and basic performance skills.  Students will learn pieces from a variety of genres, ranging from classical, seasonal, jazz, Broadway, pop and patriotic.  This group will participate in two music performances each school year (one each semester) and will be required to participate in rehearsals for those performances, as well as complete in-class assignments and quizzes in music theory, sight-singing and dictation each week. 

7th - 8th Grade Choir Class

Intermediate/Advanced Choir class is a moderately challenging choir group, consisting of students in the 7th and 8th grades only. Students will be required to participate in a practice/simulation audition for the Arizona Regional Choir in preparation for high school readiness.  They will focus on some basic and some advanced choral training skills, soloing, music notation and sight-reading, and performance skills.  Students will learn pieces from a variety of genres, ranging from classical, seasonal, jazz, Broadway, pop and patriotic.  This group will participate in two music concerts each school year (one each semester) and will be required to participate in rehearsals for those performances, as well as complete in-class assignments and quizzes in sight reading, theory, terminology and dictation each week.
